Registration of Marriages of Foreign Nationals in Sri Lanka

The couple need to be resident in Sri Lanka at least four days (04) before the wedding.

 Following original documents are required appropriately.

The following information about the bride and the groom must also be submitted with the affidavit.

  *      Full names and addresses of the bride and the groom and the parents of both parties.

 *        Professions of the bride, groom and the fathers of both parties.

The originals of all the documents mentioned above must be taken to Sri Lanka to be shown to the Civil Status Officer before the couple can marry. All documents must be in English. If any of  the original certificates or papers are in a different language, an official translation in English also must be submitted.

It is advised to get the marriage certificate issued by Sri Lanka authorities, authenticated at the Consular Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at No: 97A, Galle Road, Colombo 3, Sri Lanka.
